Pharaoh Jack Hawkins plays straightman to Joan Collins’ campy concubine while James Robertson Justice does a terrific job of keeping a straight face as a tomb architect. Amidst all the stone monuments, the only thing wooden is Dewey Martin as Justice’s son. All this may not sound like a **** movie, but it’s a guilty pleasure I’ve watched so many times on VHS that it’s embarrassing. That’s gotta be worth extra credit.

The only thing that mars this magnificent presentation is Bogdavoch’s commentary. Not only does he have nothing obvious to say about the film, he actually has NOTHING to say at all. His presence on the track can only be explained by his having an ancient taped interview with Hawks in which he leads the director to discuss DeMille and dump on his movie. Well… if you too are a fan, my advice to you is: PASS ON THIS EDITION! I was absolutely stunned to survey that this film had been re-edited! And NOT for the better. In fact, this was not a current edit in the aged sense (scene shifting; scene re-edits etc.) . All they did with this version was to simply sever off lines from the existing current final carve! That’s fair. They honest shortened scenes, most often taking the accomplish of the scene ins and outs (first and last lines in each scene) . There were so many excellent reviews of the film I decided to go gather it. Blood Simple was the best film I saw in 2000. Until now there has been no DVD available in the U.S. A very grainy dreadful quality pan and scan copy is being sold in the UK. It fair isn’t an option to engage a pan and scan with this movie. The Coen brothers blooming cinematography makes rotund expend of the entire frame. It is a noir style film so powerful of the imagery is in darkened bars and at night. But the color and light in the movie is really handsome. This film has deserved a profitable treatment and now with this Director’s chop it is finally getting one. One of the outlandish things about this Director’s reduce is it is the same length as the unusual version. Footage has been taken out and not added. Before this movie, Mr. Chomet was busy drawing comics. This is where he gets most of his subtle humor. For example, his drawings are so peculiar, that he gives every character a novel snide spy. Champion has a narrow face, puny waist, and over exagerrated muscular legs remarkable like a cycleist. It’s in these terms, he can purchase something normal and turn it into an exagerrated comedic moment. His understanding on Americans is shown and deeply silly. Throughout the city, all the characters walking are overly obeast. The famed price “Hollywood” reads “Hollyfood”. It’s this kind of dry humor that is very witty and attractive to the audience.

I’m most impressed in that this movie keeps your eyes constantly watching even through there is a lack in dialogue. A couple of lines is all it has and nothing more. The rest are fair sound effects and quirky music played by the triplets and the grandmother. They spend all kinds of instruments, from a refrigerator to a bicycle wheel. The music is unfamiliar yet moving. I found myself constantly tapping my foot in rhythm with the crazy style. But in this movie, dialogue really isn’t even needed. Mr. Chomen’s drawings give enough character development in itself. Champion, throughout his older self, level-headed has the same murky eyes as he did when he was a young boy. The grandmother is ruthless in that she always carries her whistle around blowing it to abet her son in cycleing. The dog is the best out of all the characters because the audience gets a chance to view the images of the psychological dreams the dog has and why he barks the device he does at trains. If anyone is a lover of dogs, the scenes curious the dog are enough to pick up over any fan.

These qualities truely spot this movie out to be a masterpiece. Though lack of dialogue and simple set, the animation, music, and quirky witty humor alone provide enough entertainment to turn this film into fantastic. I am thankful it’s nominated for Best Appealing Feature. Although I want it to earn and definitely consider it deserves it over Finding Nemo, I dread the advantage of an earlier presence in Finding Nemo will glean voter’s hearts. Even if it doesn’t acquire, it is definitely a film Mr. Chomet should remove pride in. I recommend this film to everyone. Some will worship its humor. Others will mediate it’s impartial monotonous unusual. But all will care for it’s astounding animation and its totally unusual concept.
